#9 Multifaceted Ministry in Mitla

Filed under: Uncategorized — jfick @ 2:53 pm

Good morning to all on this B A utiful Thursday the 18th.

First I must apologize for procrastinating so long in writing this letter.

On the Sunday after I wrote last time I went to “church” this time at the Loker’s. Afterwards I hung out with Mat Butler and Isaac Quezada until 5 when there was a wedding reception for Tim and Heidi Loker (for their friends here who couldn’t go to the wedding in thestates). I had to leave a little before 6 to go play bass at the church. After playing I returned to the party.

Monday thru Friday I continued working on the sidewalk. That is except on Tuesday when I returned to Oaxaca to finish the compy desk. Monday after work I went to the Loker’s to play video games, and was invited to stay for dinner. Wednesday thru Friday I did PE in the afternoons with the younger group of kids in FES (Field Education System).

On Saturday I pretty much just rested and did nothing until movie night. Movie night took place at the Loker’s (Tim and Heidi) and we watched Ocean’s 13. On Sunday I went to “church” at the Quezadas’. Afterwards I went home.

On Monday I helped dig trenches to divert water away from the apartments. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday I did PE in the afternoon. Monday during lunch I hurt my arm on the Butler’s trampoline. Tuesday I sorted nuts and bolts because of my “injury.” Wednesday I went with FES on their field trip to some caves. In the afternoon I helped Joel (the mechanic). I continued to help Joel Thursday and Friday. After PE on Friday I went to watch Bible quizzing at the Quezadas’ (I think it is a variation of Nazarene). Afterwards I hung out with Matt until we went to the Lokers’ to swing dance.

This morning I made and ate pancakes.

#8 God Is Good! (And so are friends!)

Filed under: Uncategorized — jfick @ 8:55 pm

God is good all the time, all the time God is good.

Today is the sixth of October, a Saturday. On Friday after I wrote I did not go to taco brown because it was not open for the night.

On Saturday I cleaned my apartment and washed my clothes. At about 2:30 a group of rabble rousers appeared at my door. The group consisted of Matt Butler, Isaac Quezada, Miriam Witt, Becca Loker, and Isaac’s sister who’s name I forget. We went to the ruins to buy ice cream (for those who came two years ago that is where we went shopping). We then went to the Butlers’ house where some of us stayed till about 6:45.

On Sunday I went to “church” at the Quezadas’. Afterwards I spent the day with Matt, Isaac, and others, finishing the day with “Daredevil”.

On Monday I worked with Joel and Saul (keep in mind Spanish pronunciations) on a sidewalk/handicap ramp. Monday night Tim Loker invited me to a game night. People that were there included the rabble rousers (minus Miss Quezada, Tim and his wife Heidi (both 20), Hannah Loker, Lucas Quezada, Mikie, and Seth Butler.

On Tuesday, Thursday and Friday I continued work on the sidewalk. On Wednesday I went to the office with Tom Brown to help construct a work table in the computer room. While there I ran into Larry Williams and got a laptop to borrow for 7 months!

Today I again cleaned and washed. In the afternoon I baked cookies and practiced for worship tomorrow at the local church (their regular bassist was hit by a moto taxi, please pray for him).

Judah P. Fickett.

P.S. So far I have received four letters. They have all come on days that were looking really bad. I have had four days that were looking really bad. God is good.

P.P.S. This is the second time I wrote this. Last time when I hit send it erased everything.

P.P.P.S. Miss McKone is my hero.
